Okay maybe not. The 360 is the one that rises ahead of the Wii, for the first time since the release of Halo 3 in 2007. Furthermore, the PS3 rose, but didn't rise enough to bypass the Wii itself. And while the PSP and the PS2 rose, it was not as huge as the current gen console systems, along with the Nintendo DS, which continues it dominance.
Now let's move onto the software
Software | Publisher | System | Sales |
Bioshock 2 | 2K Games | X-Box 360 | 555.6K |
New Super Mario Bros Wii | Nintendo | Wii | 656.7K |
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 | Activision Blizzard | X-Box 360 | 314.3K |
Just Dance | Ubi-Soft | Wii | 275.4K |
Wii Sports Resort | Nintendo | Wii | 272.5K |
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 | Activision Blizzard | Playstation 3 | 252.8K |
Mass Effect 2 | Electronic Arts | X-Box 360 | 246.5K |
Dante's Inferno: Divine Edition | Electronic Arts | 242.5K | |
Dante's Inferno | Electronic Arts | X-Box 360 | 224.7K |
Heavy Rain | Sony | Playstation 3 | 219.3K |
While the Wii and the PS3 have the same number of titles on the Top 10, the 360 edges both out with 4 titles with Bioshock 2 at number 1. Behind it is New Super Mario Bros Wii, which is still selling. Many gamers still continue to game on Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 at number 3 and number 6 despite problems between Activision and Infinite Ward. In between are Just Dance and Wii Sports Resort. Mass Effect 2 has fallen to 7th, dropping a good chunk. Right behind are the PS3 version of Dante's Inferno and the 360 version. Rounding out the Top 10 is Heavy Rain, Sony's attempt at Hollywooding the Point and Click genre originally dominated by LucasArts
A word of warning. Next month the Nintendo DSI XL Will debut. Will gamers increase the size of their handhelds? Or will they continue to think small? We'll find out soon enough.
