Folks, there's a smell in the air that Nintendo's 3DS may be well on its way out even though the PS Vita isn't even on its way in. With word that a price drop is coming and those with the systems that connect to get 20 free games, is it any wonder they're falling out? Then again, we bragged on how Sony was on its way out due to their online service crapping out, all while our Government is about to default on its loans.
But hey, it's the price we pay to be like our number one idol: Fox News
So anyway, here's the NPD. First up, the Hardware
Xbox 360 - 507,000
Wii - 273,000
PS3 - 276,000 Estimate
3DS - 143,000
DS - 386,000
As usual, the 360 is number 1 with the original DS right behind. The Wii is barely behind the PS3 which makes us wonder: What is Sony doing? Sony, you better be careful. Otherwise Nintendo will do to you what it did in 2008. I still remember that horrifying story. The 3DS did better this month, though it's not as huge as in its debut
As for the software? Well it's good news for Duke fans, bad news for Shadow of the Damned fans
01. L.A. Noire (360, PS3) Take 2 Interactive - 419,000
02. Duke Nukem Forever (360, PS3, PC) Take 2 Interactive - 376,300
03. Infamous 2 (PS3) Sony - 369,200
04. Lego Pirates of the Caribbean: The Video Game (Wii, 360, NDS, PS3, 3DS, PSP, PC) Disney Interactive Studios
05. Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D (3DS) Nintendo - 283,200
06. Call of Duty: Black Ops (360, PS3, Wii, NDS, PC) Activision Blizzard
07. NBA 2K11 (360, PS3, Wii, PS2, PSP, PC) Take 2 Interactive
08. Mortal Kombat 2011 (PS3, 360) Warner Bros. Interactive
09. Cars 2 (NDS, Wii, 360, PS3, PC) Disney Interactive Studios
10. Just Dance 2 (Wii) Ubisoft
L.A. Noire, Rockstar's hit detective Drama on the 360 and PS3 hits number 1 with Duke Nukem's sub-par return at number 2. Infamous is right behind with LEGO Pirates of the Carribbean sailing right behind. The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D makes its debut at 5 with Call of Duty: Black Ops at 6. NBA 2K11 lies at 7 with Mortal Kombat hanging on at 8. Rounding out the Top 10 are Cars 2 and Just Dance 2.
But take alook at number 1. The highest selling software title is less than 500K. Are people loosing interest in gaming for next month? And if so, will August's numbers be worst with a rumored default? Stay tuned.
